Happy New Year!!
Hi, this is Lisa. I have 3 New Year’s traditions to share with you.
1.Twelve Grapes
Many people from Spanish-speaking countries eat twelve grapes at midnight. A wish is made for each grape—one to represent each month in this year.
2.Hoppin John
Another food-related tradition takes place in Southern states, where many people eat a simple rice dish thought to bring luck. This meal consists of pork or turkey-flavored black-eyed peas (to represent coins), rice mixed with green vegetables (to represent money), and yellow cornbread (to represent gold).
3.French King Cake
Many predominantly Christian cultures have some kind of cake that is eaten early in the month of January to celebrate the holiday of Epiphany. Perhaps the most widely-known cake eaten at this time is the French King Cake. This cake has a small figurine or token inside, and the person who finds it is considered a special, lucky person for the day. (Last year I bought a cake like this in Japan for a New Year’s Party!)
See you next time! I hope you have a great year ahead of view.
みなさんはどのような新年を過ごされたでしょうか。
それでは、本年もどうぞよろしくお願いいたします。
